Since 2005 the Children & Elders Forest has planted over 350 trees in four groves. The Children & Elders Forest is unique to the many fine tree planting programs around the world. Our program is special in the fact that we encourage intergenrational teams of sponsors to bring a personal memorial as a gift to the community for many generations to come. Each tree is sponsored by a tree team consisting of youth and elders. Trees provide a great number of benefits to the health and well being of our communities. We hope that these groves will stand as a multigenerational recognition of the bonds between young and old. |
July 4, 2009 Bur Oak Grove, will be located at a new Bloomington City park off of Ireland Grove in the Kickapoo Creek watershed. See the new design! The planting will be in the fall of 2009. Cardinal Grove will be located on the campus of Glenn Elementary School on Glenn street in Normal. Twenty-seven trees will be planted in this grove. Golden Grove (Phase II), located on the Bloomington High School and Junior High School properties, is going to be planted in 2009. We are now taking sponsorships tree plantings in these groves. We completed the planting of 45 trees in phase I of Golden Grove on November 15. Prairie Grove (located at the Illinois State University Horticultural Center) had all 29 of its trees planted on November 8. Thanks to all of you who planted tree last fall!
